A handful of the Coalition Music team will be heading halfway around the world to Singapore next week to take part in the amazing Music Matters conference + festival (come on up and say hi if you see them!), needless to say excitement is in the air.

The wonderful thing about conferences and music festivals is that it’s a great environment to meet new people, network and discover bands from all over the world.  If you’re in a band, this is an opportunity to chat up a person you’d otherwise never be in the same room with - and that’s what the link above is all about.

Say you’ve got your performance down pat, but you start getting the shakes before you’ve extended your hand. Take a breather because you’re probably not the only one. Jasper Donat, the President of Music Matters, recently shared his key points to networking at major conferences - all great things to keep in mind. Have a look at these tips on preparing yourself to network professionally and effectively. Start incorporating a few at a time if it seems daunting.

Hope to meet you at a conference soon!

Have you see @SimplePlan’s video for Summer Paradise ft. Sean Paul ?

2012 has been a whirlwind for Simple Plan as the band is celebrating many milestones past and present! France hosted the NRJ Awards in January, where Simple Plan and Marie-Mai took the award for Groupe/Duo Francophone De L’Annee for “Jet Lag”! In February the band teamed with Sherwood Hockey to produce a signature hockey stick for the Simple Plan Foundation, followed with the 10th anniversary of the band’s debut release “No Pads No Helmets Just Balls” in mid-March.

By far, the most exciting moment for the band this year has been the Juno Awards where they were named the 2012 recipients of the Allan Waters Humanitarian Award for their ongoing dedication to helping youth through the Simple Plan Foundation.

Prior to the Juno Awards broadcast, the band was also presented with plaques celebrating one million units sold in Canada!

The “Get Your Heart On!” tour has led Simple Plan through SE Asia, Japan, Canada, Spain, Germany and France already this year. Currently, the band is in Europe for the second leg of their tour and will be in Australia in early June.

The Village Voice takes a look at why your cellphone (and the cellphones of your concert-going colleagues) is tarnishing the live music experience for the collective audience.

I won’t lie, I’m guilty of checking my phone periodically at shows. But I’m making a conscious effort to free myself of the short chain that technology puts us on. When you’re out seeing your favourite band, live in the moment and don’t miss out on that special something that might happen because you were sending a text.

Summer is just around the corner, and for so many of us it means only one thing: the season of music festivals!

One of our favourite, long-standing summer festival tours is the Vans Warped Tour. We had a great opportunity to see VWT founder Kevin Lyman speak in Toronto during Canadian Music Week. Since 1995 when the Warped Tour began it’s annual trek across North America, so many facets of the music industry have changed and evolved, but the VWT has managed to always come through with another successful year under its’ belt.

This is a great article/interview with Kevin and some Warped “Family” members on how they, as a team, have kept the tour rolling through the years, how the tour has adapted with the times and all kinds of factors that need to be considered when planning a festival.

Rock on!
